Introduction

Ballantrae is a village whose past is well documented, however there is more to the formation of a community than events that happened centuries ago. Many quirky and unusual things have happened over the last 300-400 years that don't get the publicity they might warrant and the timeline we have compiled gives a small insight into some happenings that have occurred in such a small place over the years. Some are funny, some are not but with the good also comes the bad but Ballantrae always soldiers on.

Some things like the Total Abstinence Society, Ballantrae Steam Engine Company, Curling Club and the Golf Course sadly no longer exist although the Golf Club House still serves a useful purpose as Colmonell Bowling Club House. Records exist pertaining to the Curling Club and the Steam Engine Company.

There are many images of the district which show how little the buildings have changed with the passing of time and some are shown on this website. Many changes of use have occurred with the buildings and a comparison between 1900 and 2017 shows some of these changes.

If anyone has any queries about the Ballantrae area that you think we can help you with, or if you have any images or information that we can add to the collection please feel free to contact Keith and Christine Brown at kaycee.history@gmail.com.
